Abia Civil Servant Lynched for Allegedly Killing Man with Stone
A man named Uche Onyekaba was lynched by an angry mob on Ukaonu Street near NEPA, Aba, after allegedly killing another man with a stone during a heated argument.
Onyekaba, believed to be an employee of Abia Water and Sewage Corporation, had an altercation with the victim, during which he reportedly struck the man with a stone, causing him to collapse.
Realizing the man had died, a mob quickly gathered and beat Onyekaba to death. There were claims that Onyekaba had been frustrated due to unresolved salary issues, which may have led to the argument.
However, a senior staff member from the Abia State Ministry of Power and Public Utilities dismissed these claims, confirming only Onyekaba’s death.
The Abia State Police Command, through spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident. Preliminary investigations indicated that the two men had fought, resulting in one man’s death, which provoked the mob to lynch Onyekaba.
The police visited the crime scene, evacuated the bodies, and are continuing the investigation.
