The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets is calling on the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to finish the 330kV Double Circuit Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi transmission project. Lawmakers believe this infrastructure is vital for boosting power distribution and local economic growth.
Led by Chairman Hon. Ademorin Kuye, the committee toured the project site alongside members including Hon. Tunji Akinosi, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, and Hon. Patrick Umoh. They met with NDPHC officials, community leaders, and representatives from the construction firm, Anita Energy, to evaluate the status of the stalled work.
Kuye emphasized that the visit is part of a larger legislative effort to identify and revive abandoned federal projects so that taxpayer investments do not go to waste. During the site visit, the committee determined that both the NDPHC and Anita Energy are prepared to resume work if funding hurdles and local disputes are resolved.
The committee urged the NDPHC to prioritize paying the remaining compensation to landowners, which is a major barrier to the contractor returning to the site. Kuye noted that completing this line will significantly benefit Akwa Ibom State by supporting local businesses, farmers, and artisans while improving regional security.
Chief Joseph Gall Udo, the Village Head of Adiasim Ikot, confirmed that the project has been dormant for over six years. He urged the authorities to settle pending claims, noting that residents have actively protected the construction materials remaining on-site in anticipation of the project’s revival.
