The family of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is the suspected Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), is concerned about attempts by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee to interview him while he is detained. His brother, Peter Adeyemi, noted that committee members tried to question him without his legal counsel present, prompting him to refuse to answer.
The family is advocating for a public hearing, insisting that since the accusations against him were made openly, he should be afforded the same platform to respond. Adeniyi’s lawyer, Ademola Oyedokun, also stated that his client is ready to cooperate but strongly opposes any private interrogation. He argued that the proceedings must be transparent and held in a public forum to ensure fairness.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi previously announced the plan for a private interview to avoid disrupting concurrent investigations by agencies such as the Nigeria Police, the EFCC, and the ICPC. Gagdi maintained that the committee respects court orders and the principle of separation of powers, acknowledging that they cannot bypass judicial rulings. The investigation centers on serious accusations, including forgery, financial misconduct, and the unauthorized use of government credentials.
