The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has officially refuted claims that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, was taken into custody regarding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council scandal. Demola Bakare, the spokesperson for the commission, clarified in a Tuesday statement that Gbajabiamila arrived voluntarily to assist with the inquiry and left after his session concluded.
Reports indicate the former Speaker of the House of Representatives visited the Abuja headquarters during the afternoon. The agency noted that his presence was strictly a result of a formal invitation meant to facilitate the fact-finding process. No arrest occurred. Jiti Ogunye, serving as legal counsel to the presidential aide, previously confirmed that his client complied with the commission’s request for questioning.
This investigation stems from a July 2 directive issued by President Tinubu, who mandated a thorough review of the controversy. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga stated that the commission was given a 30-day deadline to finish its work and submit findings. The ICPC maintains that the inquiry remains active and promised to share additional information as the situation progresses.
