The Bauchi State House of Assembly is mourning the loss of Hon. Mohammed Wanzam Zaki, the representative for Sakwa Constituency. Speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman confirmed that the lawmaker passed away on Sunday morning after a short illness. Prior to his passing, Zaki led the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation and was viewed as a highly influential member of the legislative body.
Speaker Suleiman’s spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, stated that the late legislator was a dedicated public servant noted for his commitment to duty. The Speaker highlighted Zaki’s significant contributions to the state and his constituents, offering prayers for his soul and support for his family. Funeral rites were held at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque on Sunday.
Governor Bala Mohammed also shared his condolences, calling the death a major loss for Bauchi State. In a message delivered by his aide Mukhtar Gidado, the governor praised Zaki for his integrity, humility, and steadfast service. He specifically recognized the lawmaker’s oversight work and leadership on the budget committee, describing him as a dependable leader and a bridge-builder for the community. The governor expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family, the residents of Sakwa, and the Katagum Emirate Council.
