Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has reaffirmed his positive relationship with musician David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, clarifying that the singer is still considered his son. This statement arrives amid political friction preceding the Osun State gubernatorial election.
As the chairman of the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, Uzodinma noted he is not a registered voter in Osun, but is participating to assist the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The clarification was released by his spokesperson, Oguwike Nwachuku, in response to attacks by Ambrose Nwogwugwu against the singer.
Nwogwugwu had criticized Davido after the performer requested a peaceful election. Davido, the nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, had previously called on Uzodinma to prioritize a fair and transparent process. Uzodinma explicitly stated that he did not authorize Nwogwugwu to speak on his behalf, asserting that those critical remarks were entirely personal and did not reflect the views of the APC.
The governor emphasized that the APC is dedicated to a credible and peaceful electoral environment. He concluded by asking the public and Davido to ignore the unauthorized comments, explaining that active involvement in campaigns by non-voters is a standard practice in democratic processes.
