Governor Otti Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms as Necessary for Long-Term Growth

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State commends President Tinubu for his bold economic reforms, arguing that current hardships are the result of past unsustainable practices rather than recent policy changes.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has lauded President Bola Tinubu for the removal of the petroleum subsidy and the floating of the naira. During a meeting with First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who visited the state to highlight the Akwete weaving heritage in Ukwa East, the governor emphasized that these bold policy choices demanded significant political bravery.

Otti requested that the First Lady relay his gratitude to the President. He noted that while these measures are challenging, they are vital for correcting the nation’s economic trajectory. He argued that these reforms redirected resources away from consumption, allowing federal, state, and local governments to settle salary obligations and invest in public infrastructure.

While acknowledging the immediate economic strain felt by citizens, the governor stated that such consequences are expected following drastic policy shifts. He rejected the notion that current hardships are solely the result of recent reforms, arguing instead that they stem from years of unsustainable economic practices. According to Otti, the economy will eventually stabilize as these corrective measures take hold.
