Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has enacted three new Executive Orders designed to tackle critical social, environmental, and security issues. Signed this past weekend, these mandates aim to tighten legal enforcement, improve public safety, and shield local areas from the consequences of unlawful resource extraction.
To combat the rising prevalence of substance misuse, one order provides more robust legal support for existing prohibitions against illicit drugs. Governor Kefas highlighted that substance abuse is driving criminality and social instability, threatening the well-being of the youth. This directive facilitates rehabilitation, awareness programs, and stronger prosecution protocols for drug-related crimes.
A second order targets political thuggery, aiming to preserve state stability during upcoming election cycles. It strictly forbids the hiring, funding, or supporting of thugs by political actors. The government intends for this to reduce voter intimidation, property destruction, and electoral unrest.
The final order addresses the damage caused by illegal miners and loggers. By regulating unauthorized resource exploitation, the government seeks to restore environmental health, protect water sources, and ensure that local farmlands remain productive for community livelihoods.
The Taraba government has urged all stakeholders, including traditional, religious, and community leaders, to cooperate with security agencies to ensure these orders successfully promote sustainable development.
