Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has urged for increased efforts to provide formal schooling to Almajiri and out-of-school youth. During a meeting in Abuja with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Yousef bin Mohammed Albalawi, she proposed a strategic partnership to blend Islamic studies with Western-style education. Tinubu emphasized that this integration is vital for improving the livelihoods of these vulnerable children and ensuring national stability.
She expressed concern that neglecting these children could exacerbate Nigeria’s existing security issues. By providing them with formal academic training, she believes the country can better secure its future. The First Lady also highlighted the long-standing friendly ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, expressing her appreciation for the diplomatic visit.
Ambassador Albalawi, having recently assumed his post, praised the hospitality he has received from Nigerian government officials. He noted that his interactions with the Federal Executive Council have been productive, signaling a move toward stronger bilateral cooperation. The Ambassador expressed a keen interest in fostering economic growth and leveraging the shared historical, religious, and cultural bonds between the two nations to enhance their mutual development.
