Governor Bago selects Yakubu Garba as 2027 running mate

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has announced that his deputy, Yakubu Garba, will be his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Umaru Bago, the Governor of Niger State, has confirmed that his deputy, Yakubu Garba, will remain his running mate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial race. The announcement took place on Tuesday in Minna while the Governor addressed state lawmakers and members of the executive council.

Bago credited the decision to the deputy’s consistent loyalty and his commitment to the administration’s goals for the state. During the session, the Governor emphasized the importance of maintaining an inclusive government and urged citizens to avoid actions that might incite political unrest.

Addressing administrative needs, Bago requested that stakeholders in regions where political representatives recently stepped down provide new nominations to fill those empty seats. He also expressed gratitude to the All Progressives Congress leadership and state legislators for their ongoing cooperation.

The gathering concluded with the Governor signing and formally presenting the nomination paperwork to Mr. Garba.
