Abdullahi Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, has requested that the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria take a leading role in mediating disagreements between sitting governors and their deputies. Speaking in Abuja during a visit from the group ahead of their national conference, Ganduje noted that stable partnerships within state houses are essential for national progress.
The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress suggested that these veterans are uniquely positioned to offer counsel regardless of party lines. He believes their combined experience commands the necessary respect to mitigate political instability. Having held the deputy governor position himself, Ganduje acknowledged the difficulty of the role while highlighting its vital importance for constitutional stability and administrative continuity.
Beyond current tensions, Ganduje challenged the Forum to investigate the frequent friction observed between departing governors and their elected successors. Chris Akomas, the Forum chairman and former deputy governor of Abia State, confirmed that the organization is dedicated to promoting national unity and good governance. He stated that the group aims to collaborate with government bodies and academic institutions to foster sustainable development across Nigeria.
