FCT Police dismiss manipulated video of Peter Obi and launch inquiry

The FCT Police Command has labeled a widely shared, edited video of Peter Obi as misleading, confirming it was created from a 2024 incident involving a party leadership dispute, and has ordered an official investigation.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has identified a viral video featuring Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, as a doctored attempt to push a false political agenda. The footage was edited with misleading captions and campaign graphics to incorrectly imply that the Nigeria Police Force was supporting or engaging in political activity.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police, clarified that the footage stems from a 2024 police intervention at the Labour Party’s national headquarters in Utako, Abuja. Officers were dispatched to handle a leadership dispute, and the interaction with Mr. Obi occurred solely as part of that emergency response to maintain public order.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi has initiated a formal investigation to determine the source of the manipulated media. The Command emphasized that it operates as an impartial, apolitical entity and will not tolerate its activities being exploited for partisan propaganda. Authorities have urged the public to verify information via official channels and avoid spreading deceptive content.
