Senator Jonah Jang, the former Governor of Plateau State, recently shared a poignant message regarding the transient nature of political office. During his 80th birthday celebration in Jos, which featured the launch of his autobiography titled From Airman to Politics, the elder statesman emphasized that true value lies in character, faith, and helping others rather than in the accumulation of wealth or power.
Reflecting on his lengthy career in both the military and governance, Jang noted that political positions are only temporary. He encouraged those in public service to prioritize integrity and selfless duty over material gain. Addressing the younger generation, he urged them to seek spiritual fulfillment through faith, arguing that external success is not the ultimate measure of a meaningful life.
Jang explained that his son, Yakubu, convinced him to document his experiences to ensure future generations have a truthful record of his time in office. He noted that the book aims to clarify past decisions and address historical inaccuracies without targeting individuals. The former governor used the event to express gratitude to past leaders like Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Goodluck Jonathan for their support throughout his career. He also gave heartfelt thanks to his wife for her unwavering support and to Vice President Kashim Shettima for attending the ceremony.
