Former welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr. has officially stepped away from professional boxing after a defeat in his return to the ring. The 36-year-old American, who concluded his career with a 28-2 record, was bested by Australia’s Tim Tszyu in Sydney. The judges awarded the victory to Tszyu with scores of 118-110, 117-111, and 117-111.
Spence confirmed that this contest marks the conclusion of his professional journey. Expressing gratitude, the former WBA, WBC, and IBF titleholder noted that he is satisfied to leave the sport with his health and family intact. Spence first rose to prominence in 2017 when he defeated Kell Brook to claim his maiden world title.
