The ADC Likeminds support group in Enugu State has praised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for naming Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson for the upcoming 2027 presidential bid. A statement released by Comrade Adolphus Ude highlighted this move as proof of Atiku’s long-standing ability to identify gifted individuals and promote inclusive governance.
The group conveyed their gratitude to the former Vice President for selecting one of their members for such a significant role, noting that the appointment honors Okonkwo’s past contributions to both the film industry and national politics. The organization pointed to Atiku’s historical success as a mentor and talent scout, specifically citing his time as Vice President and Chairman of the National Economic Council between 1999 and 2007. During that period, he curated a prestigious economic team including figures such as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nasir El-Rufai, and Akinwumi Adesina, which ultimately helped Nigeria secure a $30 billion debt cancellation from the Paris Club.
Furthermore, the supporters argued that Atiku’s leadership style transcends tribal and religious lines, contrasting him with peers who operate within narrow ethnic interests. By choosing an Igbo professional for a key campaign position, the group believes the former Vice President has demonstrated his genuine commitment to national unity. They expressed full confidence that Okonkwo will utilize his background in media and politics to effectively represent the candidate, suggesting that this appointment signals a positive future for the South East region under an Atiku administration.
