Chief Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, the All Progressives Congress choice for the Abia South Senatorial District, has dismissed claims that he has been replaced as the party’s nominee for the 2027 elections. He stated that any such action lacks legal authority. Erondu, currently a member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Obingwa West, asserts he is the legitimate candidate after winning the direct primary election held on May 18, 2026, across the district’s 65 wards.
The lawmaker noted that the voting process was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Services, and various security agencies. According to Erondu, the party’s National Working Committee declared him the winner, and a subsequent review by the APC Appeal Committee upheld this result. Furthermore, INEC provided a Certified True Copy of the election report in June 2026, solidifying his status.
Reports suggesting that Prince Paul Ikonne might replace him have prompted Erondu to warn against violations of the 2026 Electoral Act. He pointed out that legal substitution is only permissible in cases of death, voluntary withdrawal, or specific court orders. Since he remains active and has not resigned his nomination, he argues no valid grounds for replacement exist. He has called upon the APC leadership to honor the internal party mandate and requested that INEC stick to its verified records. Finally, he asked his supporters to ignore the rumors and remain dedicated to the political agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
