Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo recently defended his decision to appoint 4,000 Special Assistants, arguing that this strategy is essential for extending governance to the local level. During a gathering with All Progressives Congress (APC) members representing the state’s 18 local government areas, Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s dedication to both the party and grassroots development.
Dr. Patrick Ebojele, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, noted that the meeting served to foster unity within the APC. Governor Okpebholo told party members that the victory belonged to everyone, justifying the large number of appointments as a way to share the success and ensure that resources reach the bottom. The governor aims to bridge the gap between state-level policy and the needs of the wards.
APC state chairman Jarret Tenebe praised the governor for revitalizing the party. Tenebe confirmed that the administration has authorized the appointment of 25 Special Assistants for each of the 192 wards throughout Edo State. To ensure fairness, the party has established a special committee to oversee the selection process based on clear guidelines provided to local ward chairmen.
