For the second month in a row, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has surpassed the United States to become the leading provider of jet fuel to Europe. This achievement highlights the refinery’s increasing impact on the global energy sector.
Data from Kpler indicates that in July, the Lekki-based facility delivered over 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, representing nearly 20 percent of the continent’s total imports. This follows a strong performance in June, where the refinery exported 466,000 tonnes, marking the first time Nigeria outperformed the U.S. as Europe’s top supplier.
The refinery is successfully meeting Europe’s high quality standards, outperforming long-standing suppliers from the Middle East and Asia. Its geographic location on the Atlantic coast, paired with high-capacity production, allows it to disrupt traditional trade routes.
Production remains high, with crude oil processing hitting 660,000 barrels per day. David Bird, the CEO of the refinery, confirmed that the company is also growing its global export footprint for diesel and gasoline, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the refined petroleum market.
