Convict at Large Following Vehicle Accident in Yobe
The Yobe State branch of the Nigerian Correctional Service has launched a search for a convicted prisoner who escaped following a vehicular accident. The incident occurred as the transport vehicle was traveling from Potiskum to Damaturu.
Public Relations Officer for the command, Abdullahi Adamu, confirmed the escape in a formal announcement released on Wednesday. According to the report, the transport van was involved in a collision on April 13. During the ensuing rescue operation for those affected by the crash, the inmate seized the opportunity to abscond.
The runaway prisoner has been identified as 30-year-old Dahiru Mohammed, a resident of Askiwari village in the Tarmuwa area. Authorities noted his prison identification number as J/1539/24, following his initial incarceration on November 29, 2024.
Officials have labeled Mohammed as a dangerous individual and urged citizens to refrain from approaching him. Anyone with knowledge regarding his location or who observed suspicious activity near the accident site is encouraged to contact the nearest law enforcement or correctional facility immediately.

Furthermore, the authorities reminded the public that assisting a fugitive is a criminal offense subject to legal prosecution.
