FBI Investigates Boulder Attack as Terrorism After Suspect Yells ‘Free Palestine’

The FBI has identified the assailant as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman from El Paso County and is treating the case as an act of terrorism. The suspect reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack, which targeted a gathering advocating for hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
Victims, four men and four women aged between 52 and 88 many believed to be synagogue members suffered burns and injuries, with some airlifted to specialized burn units. Authorities responded swiftly, apprehending the suspect amid a chaotic scene, and have secured the area for further investigation.


City officials have closed the Boulder County Courthouse and increased security at public events to reassure the community, emphasizing vigilance and reporting suspicious activity. The suspect is in custody, with no evidence of accomplices at large.
Local leaders expressed profound sorrow and condemnation. Rep. Joe Neguse called it “a heinous act of terror” amid rising antisemitism. Mayor Aaron Brockett vowed unity in the face of hate. Other officials stressed the need to combat divisive rhetoric and protect community safety.
The Boulder County District Attorney is working with federal prosecutors to determine charges as the investigation continues.
