Aziz Abdul, the grandson of former Ugandan leader Idi Amin, had his pursuit of a Commonwealth Games gold medal cut short following a disqualification in his super-heavyweight quarter-final match. The bout, held in Glasgow, ended abruptly during the third round when Abdul was penalized for headbutting his opponent, England’s Damar Thomas.
Abdul had entered the competition openly expressing his ambition to be known as the new king of Scotland, a reference to his grandfather’s infamous self-proclaimed title from 1976. However, the atmosphere turned hostile as the crowd booed him out of the ring after a contentious performance.
During the match, Abdul struggled to maintain composure. He received a standing count in the first round after being caught by a left from Thomas. His situation worsened in the second round when he was penalized for illegal strikes while exiting a clinch. The match concluded in the final round when the referee disqualified him for a headbutt. Following the match, a frustrated Abdul disputed the ruling, claiming the referee’s decision was biased and unfair.
