Paul Ibe, the media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has characterized recent accusations from former President Olusegun Obasanjo as unfounded political maneuvering. In a public statement, Ibe asserted that Obasanjo frequently weaponizes false narratives against his former deputy whenever elections approach.
The controversy stems from claims that Atiku orchestrated a plot through the late Ghali Umar Na’Abba to impeach Obasanjo while they were in office. Ibe countered this by highlighting testimony from former Chief Whip Abubakar Bawa Bwari, who maintained that Na’Abba never pursued such an impeachment and that Atiku actually assisted the former President in negotiations with legislators.
Ibe further challenged claims regarding the 2003 PDP nomination process. He referenced comments by former Governor Orji Kalu, who stated that Atiku actively campaigned for Obasanjo’s re-election among governors rather than seeking the presidency for himself. Additionally, Ibe addressed the 2007 Petroleum Technology Development Fund inquiry, labeling the investigation a retaliatory tactic used against Atiku for his opposition to Obasanjo’s alleged Third Term agenda.
