Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced serious concerns regarding an alleged security breach involving his personal bank account. According to a statement released on Friday by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, an unidentified person successfully deposited funds into one of his private accounts held at a major Nigerian commercial bank.
The transaction included the note, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” even though Abubakar and his team never requested or authorized such a payment. The former presidential candidate noted that because the account is private and not shared publicly, he is deeply disturbed by how an outsider obtained access to these details.
Abubakar warned that this breach suggests a dangerous vulnerability in the financial system. He argued that if a prominent public figure’s banking privacy can be compromised, ordinary citizens are at even greater risk from criminals, including kidnappers and fraudsters. He alleged that the leak might involve individuals with internal access to sensitive records. Calling the event part of a pattern of suspicious actions leading up to the 2027 elections, he urged law enforcement to investigate the matter. He also rejected any accusations of wrongdoing, emphasizing his commitment to offering solutions for Nigeria’s issues.
