Dr. Kelechi Anosike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Abia State, asserts that the faction led by Nyesom Wike is the sole legally recognized wing of the party. According to Anosike, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) acknowledges no other faction, making other splinter groups irrelevant for electoral purposes.
Anosike emphasized that he is the party’s definitive candidate in Abia. He revealed that several political entities, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, have joined forces with the PDP to challenge Governor Alex Otti in the upcoming 2027 race. Addressing the current state administration, Anosike criticized Governor Otti for failing to prioritize the youth, claiming that nearly three-quarters of the state’s young population have shifted their support to the PDP.
The candidate dismissed rumors regarding his sponsorship, stating that his political ambitions are inspired by faith rather than influence from political elites. He also explicitly denied connections to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. Turning to governance, Anosike urged the current administration to stop intimidating critics, arguing that a transparent government should welcome scrutiny regarding its performance.
Finally, Anosike challenged the governor’s record, suggesting that road construction is an insufficient measure of success. He noted that the state’s federal allocations have grown significantly under the Tinubu administration—rising from monthly receipts of approximately N3 billion to N30 billion—and suggested that such funds should yield more comprehensive economic improvements for Abia residents.
