Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, stated that the public is beginning to understand President Bola Tinubu’s actual political agenda. This remark followed a court ruling that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a legal political party.
Abubakar alleged that the current administration is working to dismantle the NDC, warning that these actions could lead to a one-party state. He characterized the attempt to remove the opposition party through the judiciary as a deliberate strategy to marginalize political rivals before the 2027 elections.
The former Vice President emphasized that obstructing electoral competition or narrowing the options available to voters threatens the nation’s democratic stability. He further remarked that while Tinubu often claims to support democratic values, his administration’s conduct suggests a different priority, labeling the president’s public rhetoric as inconsistent with his government’s behavior.
