Asiya El-Rufai, spouse of the imprisoned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly stated that the bail terms set for her husband are unreachable. She shared these concerns during a guest appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program on Wednesday.
According to Asiya, the court required two sureties of N200 million each, alongside property valued at N200 million within the Kaduna GRA. Furthermore, the court mandated an attestation from the Kaduna State traditional council. She explained that securing this specific verification has proven impossible, as the council refused to provide the necessary document without explanation.
Highlighting legal concerns, Asiya pointed out that her husband is facing bailable charges under Nigerian law. She referenced Section Four of the Constitution, which protects fundamental rights such as access to health and life, noting that previous attempts to secure bail in the High Court were denied before these current, restrictive conditions were imposed by the Federal High Court.
