Arsene Wenger, the current Chief of Global Football Development at FIFA, has publicly separated himself from Gianni Infantino’s aborted effort to sell shares of the World Cup to private equity firms.
The former Arsenal boss issued a formal statement to address his professional responsibilities and his knowledge of the proposal. Wenger clarified that his current work focuses on game data analysis, the FIFA online training platform, and managing youth education initiatives across 60 global academies. He also maintains a role as a technical advisor for IFAB.
Regarding the controversy, Wenger stated he had no part in the development of the investment strategy and only learned of the potential deal via news coverage. He fully supported the cancellation of the project, emphasizing his commitment to a FIFA that operates with integrity, transparency, and independence.
