Arsenal has officially announced that William Saliba will be out of action for a significant timeframe due to a back injury sustained while representing France at the World Cup. The 25-year-old had been dealing with the discomfort for several weeks before the tournament began, but his condition worsened during France’s semi-final match against Spain, forcing him off the pitch after just 30 minutes.
Upon his return to London, medical specialists evaluated the defender and concluded that surgery is unnecessary. Instead, Saliba will undergo a structured rehabilitation program. Saliba previously admitted he had been playing through minor physical issues for months to participate in crucial club matches and the World Cup. Last season, he played 50 times for Arsenal, contributing to their Premier League title win and Champions League final appearance. Arsenal faces Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16 before opening their league campaign against Coventry City.
