Army Chief Directs New Soldiers to Take Firm Action Against Criminal Threats

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has tasked new army recruits with confronting national security threats decisively while maintaining strict professionalism and adherence to human rights.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, has instructed fresh graduates from the 90 Regular Recruit Intake to take aggressive measures against terrorists and criminals. During the Passing Out Parade held on June 20, 2026, at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, he emphasized that these soldiers must uphold professional integrity and protect human rights during their deployments.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, noted that these troops have completed extensive training in counter-insurgency and are now ready to address various security challenges. General Shaibu stressed that while the military is dedicated to eradicating safe zones for criminals, all actions must strictly align with the Law of Armed Conflict and official Rules of Engagement.

The Army Chief expressed gratitude for the backing provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has bolstered military capabilities. He reminded the recruits that the public demands loyalty, discipline, and high performance. Furthermore, he issued a stern warning regarding social media usage, noting that leaking classified information or acting unprofessionally online threatens national security. These new soldiers are expected to contribute significantly to the broader mission of securing peace and stability across Nigeria.
