APC Supporter Shot in Osogbo Ahead of Osun 2026 Polls

An APC member was shot in Osogbo by suspected political thugs, prompting the police to launch an investigation and a series of security operations ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

Taofeek Mustapha, a member of the All Progressives Congress, was shot by unknown assailants on Saturday. Witnesses in the Oluode-Aranyin neighborhood reported that the attackers arrived in a brown Sienna without plates and fired shots into the air.

According to Sola Hammed, a local resident, civilians fled to safety as gunfire erupted. Mustapha later explained that he was wearing a cap bearing the campaign logo of his party’s candidate when the group targeted him. While attempting to escape, the gunmen shot him in the leg before fleeing the scene.

Osun State Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that an investigation into the shooting is currently underway. Additionally, authorities successfully rescued two individuals who had been abducted in Ilesa by suspected political thugs.

As the August 15 governorship election approaches, political unrest has intensified across the state. In response, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has ordered Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan to conduct security raids and operations to neutralize criminal hideouts. DIG Adegoke Fayoade addressed stakeholders, warning that the police will not tolerate political violence and instructed politicians to stop protecting criminal elements.
