APC Speakers Forum Praises Senate for State Police Legislation

The APC Forum of Progressive Speakers has lauded the Senate for passing the State Police Bill, pledging to expedite its implementation at the state level to enhance local security.

The Forum of Progressive Speakers of State Legislatures, affiliated with the All Progressives Congress, has praised the Senate for passing the State Police Bill. The group, headed by Jigawa State House of Assembly Speaker Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, views this move as a critical step toward improving local security and community-based law enforcement in Nigeria.

Dangyatin stated that this law marks a historic change in the national security framework, allowing individual states to address local security threats more efficiently. He emphasized that this legislation directly answers the long-standing request for a policing model attuned to specific regional needs, ultimately promoting better governance.

The forum committed to supporting the rollout of the law, noting that APC-led state legislatures will move quickly to ratify it and develop local legal structures. They also promised to implement strict oversight to ensure that state police operations remain professional and respect human rights. Furthermore, the speakers plan to work with state administrations to ensure sufficient funding for training, equipment, and officer welfare. The forum extended its gratitude to the National Assembly and executive leaders for their contributions, expressing optimism that state-level policing will reduce crime and boost economic stability across the nation.
