Air Marshal Aneke Emphasizes Air Power in Combating National Security Threats

Air Marshal S.K. Aneke highlights the strategic necessity of utilizing air power, intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration to overcome Nigeria’s complex security threats.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal S.K. Aneke, stated that tackling Nigeria’s growing security issues necessitates a combination of intelligence-driven tactics, military synergy, and the strategic use of air power. During a lecture at the National Defence College in Abuja on July 3, 2026, he highlighted the necessity of an integrated approach to modern warfare.

Addressing a diverse audience of security officials and international participants, Air Marshal Aneke explained that current security challenges have moved past traditional warfare. Criminal organizations, insurgents, and separatist groups now use advanced technology and challenging environments to avoid capture. Consequently, the military must fuse data from aerial, maritime, terrestrial, and cyber sources to maintain operational superiority.

Air power acts as a vital tool for the nation, offering the speed and precision needed for border security, infrastructure protection, and intelligence gathering while avoiding civilian casualties. The Air Force Chief concluded that no single security service can solve these threats in isolation. Instead, long-term success relies on synchronized planning, information sharing, and unified execution between all branches of the armed forces and other national security agencies.
