Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has accused his political rival and former governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of influencing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the state’s bank accounts. Speaking at the Arise Town Hall event ahead of the August 15 election, Adeleke alleged that Oyetola, who currently serves as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, frequently leverages the name of President Bola Tinubu to manipulate federal agencies.
According to Adeleke, Oyetola claimed that the President had ordered the accounts to be frozen. However, the situation shifted when President Tinubu reached out directly to the governor. Adeleke stated that the President expressed disbelief and frustration regarding the matter, noting that such actions were unacceptable and contrary to his commitment to a fair democratic process.
Adeleke further characterized Oyetola’s actions as a reaction to his electoral defeat in 2022. The governor accused his predecessor of abusing federal authority to destabilize the state out of lingering resentment. Adeleke is currently campaigning for a second four-year term in office.
