Adebayo Claims 2023 Presidential Race Was Against INEC

Adewole Adebayo of the SDP asserts that the 2023 election was a fraudulent contest against INEC and calls for significant institutional reform for future polls.

Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, has stated that the 2023 general election was essentially a battle against the Independent National Electoral Commission. During an appearance on Channels TV, he labeled the electoral process a sham and dismissed the published results as fraudulent.

Adebayo argued that relying on 2023 figures for analysis merely validates dishonesty. He insisted that legitimate governance cannot be built upon manipulated data. Looking toward 2027, he expressed a desire for a fair environment where candidates compete against one another rather than struggling against state institutions.

The candidate urged electoral officials and the police to ensure future contests do not force participants to view the commission or security forces as adversaries. He likened the democratic process to an academic examination where results should accurately mirror the actual effort expended by the competitors. Furthermore, he suggested that Nigerians as a collective, rather than just opposition parties, must unify to address what he described as a system drifting toward one-man rule.
