Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike following remarks that Atiku Abubakar would not secure the presidency in 2027. Wike had purportedly claimed to possess the political influence required to dismantle the former Vice President’s ambitions.
In a public statement, Eze dismissed Wike’s assertions as arrogant and harmful to the democratic process. He argued that no individual has the authority to decide who governs the nation, regardless of their current office or status. Eze challenged the Minister to clarify what he means by a political structure, questioning whether it relies on public support or the misuse of state power, intimidation, and electoral manipulation.
Eze noted that the prevailing economic hardship and insecurity have changed how citizens view political leadership. He suggested that the era of political heavyweights dictating electoral outcomes from private meetings is fading as the public, especially young voters, becomes more engaged. He warned that power is temporary and rests with the voters rather than self-proclaimed political masters.
Furthermore, the ADC chieftain urged government officials to prioritize solving the current national economic crises rather than focusing on premature electoral threats. He concluded that the 2027 election will be determined by the collective will of Nigerians based on leadership capacity and integrity, asserting that the nation does not belong to any single person.
