Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to step down and offer a formal apology to the Nigerian public regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) accounts. This call to action follows reports of conflicting testimonies provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).
Speaking through his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar characterized the discrepancies as a major blow to the integrity of the Tinubu administration. He argued that the conflicting reports from two vital financial institutions suggest an environment of dishonesty. Consequently, he stated that the President must initiate an independent investigation or accept that he has lost the moral standing required to lead the nation.
Abubakar further criticized the Attorney-General of the Federation for remaining silent amidst the turmoil. He appealed to the National Assembly to summon both the Accountant-General and the CBN Governor for a joint hearing under oath to resolve the inconsistencies. According to the former Vice President, the PFIPC scandal has transcended basic accounting issues and now serves as a litmus test for the President’s personal integrity and administrative oversight capabilities.
