Jediel Sylvester, a resident of Ganye Local Government Area in Adamawa State, has pleaded guilty to incest after admitting he impregnated his daughter. During his appearance at the Upper Area Court No.1 in Ganye, Sylvester claimed his actions were driven by lust. Presiding judge Kabiru Musa ordered that the defendant be held at a correctional facility.
The legal proceedings began following a criminal complaint lodged by the victim and her uncle, Mohammed Audi, represented by attorney Abdulrahman Njidda under the Adamawa State Administration of Criminal Justice Law. According to Audi, the victim sought medical advice after her menstrual cycle stopped, and a subsequent examination confirmed she was three months pregnant. The victim stated that when she informed her father, he urged her to falsely blame someone else and later attempted to pressure her into an abortion, which she refused due to safety concerns.
In her testimony, the victim alleged that Sylvester frequently resorted to violence and intimidation to coerce her into sexual acts. The defendant now faces formal charges of incest, criminal intimidation, and assault under the state penal code.
