Abia Police Debunk Viral Claim of 488 Boko Haram Arrests
The Abia State Police Command has officially dismissed a viral social media report alleging the arrest of 488 Boko Haram members within the state.
In a statement released on April 7, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command clarified that the video fueling these claims is a repurposed broadcast from over 11 years ago and has no connection to the current security landscape.
Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa characterized the report as a deliberate attempt to incite public panic and warned that spreading such misinformation is a punishable offense under the Criminal Code and Cybercrime Acts.
The police have urged residents to remain calm and verify news through official channels, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives across the state.
