Welsh heptathlete Abi Pawlett has officially withdrawn from her event at the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The 22-year-old, who previously represented Great Britain at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, joins Katarina Johnson-Thompson in skipping the heptathlon competition.
Pawlett is currently managing recovery from an Achilles injury that sidelined her during the World Indoor Championships this past March. Despite achieving a national indoor title in the 60m hurdles and a career-best pentathlon performance in February, the physical strain of seven events is deemed unsafe for her return. She intends to continue her participation in the 200m sprint in Glasgow. Pawlett remains the sole female representative for Wales in the 200m, as national record holder Hannah Brier was excluded following a dispute over selection deadlines.
