Criminals responsible for the abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, a judge at the Kebbi State High Court, are requesting a ransom payment of N200 million. Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, confirmed the demand during a media briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Monday while detailing the state’s recovery efforts.
Police intelligence confirms that the captors reached out to the victim’s family and an Abuja-based High Court registrar to communicate the payment terms. In response, law enforcement has dispatched specialized units to search forested areas and probable transit routes.
The police have increased patrols and set up tactical checkpoints to restrict the movement of the suspects. Commissioner Hadejia noted that authorities are optimistic about securing the judge’s release safely. He called on the public to provide any relevant leads to help authorities apprehend the kidnappers. Furthermore, the commissioner warned officials and residents against traveling after dark to minimize the risk of falling victim to criminal activity.
