12 Inmates Escape in Kogi Prison Break
Twelve inmates broke out of the Federal Correctional Center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, during a jailbreak in the early hours of Monday.
The Kogi State Government confirmed the incident through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.
Fanwo lauded the prompt action of security agencies in responding to the escape, labeling the situation as “unfortunate.” He assured residents that the government is implementing decisive measures to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.
He stated that the Kogi State government is committed to collaborating with security agencies to investigate the circumstances leading to the jailbreak.
“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns.
“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” Fanwo said.
Fanwo further stated that Governor Ahmed Ododo has instructed the State Security Adviser to work closely with the Federal Correctional Center and other security agencies to prevent future security lapses.
Additionally, the state government reaffirmed its dedication to assisting federal security agencies by providing logistical support and other essential resources to strengthen their operations.
As investigations progress, authorities have reassured residents that the situation remains under control.
“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” he added.
