Bashir Ahmad Criticizes Peter Obi Over Osun Election Commentary

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad argues that Peter Obi only views elections as credible when the APC loses, following Obi’s recent comments on the Osun gubernatorial election.

Bashir Ahmad, who previously served as a media assistant to Muhammadu Buhari, claims that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, operates under the assumption that elections are only legitimate when the All Progressives Congress fails to win. This response follows comments made by Obi regarding the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial race.

Obi shared a message on social media platform X stating that the citizens of Osun should determine their leadership while maintaining peace. In turn, Ahmad questioned whether Obi would extend congratulations to the APC candidate should they secure a victory in the polls. Ahmad argued that true democratic integrity requires accepting results even when they do not favor one’s preferred side, asserting that Obi and his supporters often imply that electoral fairness is synonymous with an APC loss.
