Ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State, Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has instructed his deployed officers to uphold strict discipline and remain neutral during their security duties.
Speaking to the personnel before their departure, Adekimi relayed orders from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Officers are required to act impartially and follow legal guidelines and formal engagement protocols at all times.
Adekimi emphasized the national importance of election security. He cautioned against any actions that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force or harm public trust, specifically forbidding extortion, unauthorized contact with politicians, or excessive force.
In a Thursday announcement from Ilorin, command spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi noted that the Commissioner ordered officers to stay alert and coordinate closely with their superiors. Their primary objective is to safeguard lives and property, maintain order, and ensure voters can participate freely.
The Commissioner stated he trusts in the readiness of his team and urged them to serve as positive representatives of the Kwara State command during the election period.
