Travel to Europe from Africa frequently requires a complex visa application process. However, specific African nations currently hold agreements allowing their residents to enter the Schengen Area without a visa for brief visits.
By 2026, Mauritius and Seychelles remain the only African countries with such visa-waiver status for the Schengen region. This status permits their citizens to travel to participating European nations for tourism or personal visits without prior visa authorization, provided they follow established guidelines.
Both Mauritian and Seychellois passport holders are permitted to stay within the Schengen zone for a maximum of 90 days during any 180-day window. This duration is cumulative across all member nations rather than specific to a single country. While this agreement simplifies entry, travelers must still satisfy standard border control requirements, as visa-free access does not serve as a guaranteed entry permit.
