Benue State police have successfully recovered an infant abducted from a Gboko medical center immediately after birth. Law enforcement officials have taken 11 suspects into custody regarding the crime.
DSP Peter Aondongu, the state police spokesperson, stated that the investigation began on August 12, 2026, after Aondofa Chia reported that his child had disappeared from the facility. Officers from the A Division in Gboko launched an immediate inquiry into the matter.
Initial efforts led to the capture of nine individuals for questioning. By 10 p.m. that evening, detectives had apprehended two additional suspects. The infant was discovered in the possession of the primary suspect, 35-year-old Asugh, and has since been returned to the mother.
Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu praised the responding officers for their efficient work. The police force is currently analyzing the extent of each suspect’s involvement.
