Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called on the younger generation to utilize administration-led initiatives, focus on skill acquisition, and avoid harmful social behaviors to better assist in national and state progress. During the 2026 International Youth Day in Makurdi, Deputy Governor Dr. Samuel Ode spoke on behalf of the governor, labeling youths as vital pillars for societal advancement.
Governor Alia encouraged the youth to actively shape the future by asking critical questions and seeking innovative solutions. He highlighted that his government remains committed to supporting young people in sectors like agriculture, technology, and sports. He emphasized that the state is working to create an environment where youth can prosper and generate employment through their own ventures.
Ojotu Ojema, the lawmaker representing the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, addressed the assembly by urging young people to move past ethnic and political divides to combat insecurity. He noted that a unified youth population is essential for a stable and prosperous Benue.
Terver Gbenda, the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation, reported that significant strides have been made, including over 9,700 engagements through the Benue Investment and Property Company and thousands of ICT training opportunities. He further urged young people to remain vigilant against political exploitation. Finally, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, the head of BIPC, challenged the state’s graduates to prioritize practical skills to remain competitive in the current job market.
