The Liberation People’s Party (LPP) has formally requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) abide by the June 2, 2026, Court of Appeal ruling that favored the party. National Chairman Abubakar Dogara emphasized that the party seeks fairness and adherence to the rule of law rather than conflict. He highlighted that the LPP has endured significant obstacles, yet maintained its resolve, calling for the electoral body to provide the same recognition afforded to other registered parties.
Addressing the National Executive Committee in Abuja, Dogara encouraged members to stay unified and disciplined ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the need for structural strengthening and internal reconciliation to build public trust.
As part of its political platform, the LPP introduced a proposal for significant constitutional changes. National Publicity Secretary Ambassador Judith Shuaibu outlined a plan to elect one President alongside six Vice Presidents, with each Vice President representing one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The party further suggests a single, non-renewable six-year term for these executive positions. According to Shuaibu, this structure aims to foster national inclusion, provide adequate time for long-term development, and reduce the distractions caused by re-election campaigns. The party’s agenda is rooted in promoting citizenship-based opportunities and improving the quality of life for all Nigerians through better governance and institutional reform.
