Between June and August 12, 2026, the Rivers State Police Command successfully captured 18 suspected criminals and confiscated 47 firearms, 12 stolen vehicles, and 420 live rounds of ammunition. Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju announced these achievements in Port Harcourt, highlighting success against crimes such as kidnapping, murder, and armed robbery.
Addressing the June 29 attack on Aluu Division officers, Adepoju noted the tragic death of two policemen and the severe injury of another, alongside the theft of two AK-47 rifles. Specialized police units later apprehended three suspects—Maduabuchi Emeka, Chinedu Owhor, and Kamachi Joe—who allegedly confessed and led officers to the recovery of the stolen weapons in Omagwa.
In Oyigbo, authorities dismantled a kidnapping syndicate, arresting individuals identified as Ezekiel Emmanuel, Chukwuma Mbanefu, Nicolas Daila, Anele Ogbogu, and Kenneth Eke. Recoveries from this group included an AK-47 and a submachine gun. Additionally, the police recovered weapons from a man in Bonny who threatened his wife, and detained two individuals involved in ‘one-chance’ robberies.
Commissioner Adepoju urged the public to file formal police reports regarding ‘one-chance’ crimes to better assist law enforcement in tracking these criminals. Finally, officers patrolling Ada-George Road intercepted Andrew Atausi, who was impersonating a military officer while driving a disguised Toyota Hilux, leading to the recovery of three stolen vehicles.
