Patience Jonathan Claims Credit for Mentoring Azikel Boss Dr. Azibapu Eruani

Former First Lady Patience Jonathan attributes the professional rise of Azikel Group’s Dr. Azibapu Eruani to her personal mentorship and encouragement, as the refinery nears operational status.

Former First Lady Patience Jonathan has revealed that she played a pivotal role in shaping the career of Azikel Group President, Dr. Azibapu Eruani. During a recent visit to the Azikel Refinery in Obunagha, Bayelsa State, Jonathan explained that she pushed Eruani to network with business titans like Aliko Dangote and Aminu Dantata to build his professional confidence.

Reflecting on their history, Jonathan noted that she encouraged Eruani to aim high despite his youth. She admitted that she was initially skeptical when Eruani sought refinery licenses during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, doubting that a non-APC government would grant them. However, she expressed joy that the project has successfully moved forward.

The $1 billion facility recently reached a key milestone by receiving its Crude Distillation Unit. Designed to process 25,000 barrels per day, the plant aims to produce petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. Once operational, it is expected to be the second-largest full-slate refinery in Nigeria.

Samuel Ogbuku, managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, praised Eruani for his persistence. He highlighted that the project serves as an economic catalyst for Bayelsa, promising significant job creation. The event was attended by various state officials, including representatives for Governor Douye Diri, who continue to back the industrial initiative.
