BTS performer V shares details of ongoing hearing loss struggles

BTS member V has announced he is receiving treatment for partial hearing loss, a condition he says worsened during his mandatory military service.

During a recent online broadcast, BTS member V, also known as Kim Tae-hyung, disclosed that he has been receiving medical care for hearing impairment in one ear for over two years. The 30-year-old explained that his right ear functions at only 30 percent capacity compared to the left. He noted that the condition deteriorated while he was fulfilling his mandatory military service.

Initially, V admitted he dismissed the symptoms, mistakenly assuming the issue was purely psychological. He is currently seeking consistent medical attention and medication to manage the condition. His bandmate, Jungkook, also participated in the stream, sharing that he is navigating a potential stress fracture in his shin to continue participating in the group’s current Arirang World Tour.

The group, which reunited earlier this year following their respective military duties, is currently performing across international cities including stops in Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. The mandatory service requirements in South Korea necessitated the band’s temporary hiatus starting in 2022, with V officially completing his term in June 2025.
